Based On Real-World Use

This is worth addressing honestly, based on real-world use rather than assumption.

In personal testing, the K2 meter had to be placed almost directly on top of the phone before it responded.

Not across the room. Not from several feet away. Right on top of it.

That tells investigators something important about distance, device behavior, and how quickly electromagnetic influence can drop off.

Phones Do Not Always Set Off EMF Meters Easily

A common statement in the field is that phones will set off EMF meters easily. That is not always accurate.

Modern devices such as iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks are low power by design, shielded internally, and not constantly transmitting at high levels.

Because of that, EMF influence can drop off very quickly with distance. If a phone is simply sitting idle, it may not register much at all on a K2 meter.

Why The K2 Responded Up Close

K2 meters primarily detect near-field electromagnetic changes. That means distance matters.

Within inches, a response may be possible. A few feet away, a response may occur if the device is actively transmitting or producing a strong enough local change. Across the room, a response is uncommon under normal conditions.

This does not mean mobile devices can be ignored. It means they should be understood accurately.

Devices Are Variables

Devices are not automatic contamination. They are variables, and variables must be controlled.

If a phone, tablet, or laptop is being used during an investigation, investigators should document its distance from the investigation area, whether it is idle or actively in use, whether airplane mode is on, and what the device is doing at the time.

Context matters. Without context, an equipment response can be misread, exaggerated, or dismissed too quickly.

A K2 Reading Is Not Communication By Itself

A K2 meter lighting up does not automatically mean communication.

It means electromagnetic change. That is all the instrument can tell you by itself.

What caused that change is what must be investigated. The cause may be ordinary, environmental, device-related, structural, electrical, or unresolved after review.

Investigator Truth

The field does not need to move away from tools. It needs to move toward understanding them.

Technology does not automatically create false evidence, but failing to control for it absolutely can.

Good investigation is not about blaming every reading on a phone, and it is not about treating every blinking light as paranormal. It is about documenting the variable, controlling the conditions, and interpreting the response with discipline.
