Here is an interesting experience I have been having, and I thought it would make for a good discussion.

If you know me, you know that I have spent years investigating paranormal claims. But what some people do not realize is that being an investigator does not stop me from being human.

When you are sound asleep at four or five in the morning and suddenly hear a door slowly creaking open, your mind tends to wake up pretty quickly.

Back in May, we had a litter of kittens. As they started getting older and more adventurous, something unusual began happening.

Several times throughout the month, I would wake up to the sound of my bedroom door slowly opening. Not swinging open. Not slamming. Just that slow, unmistakable creaking sound that immediately gets your attention when you are half asleep.

The first time it happened, I sat up wondering what in the world I had just heard.

Of course, my first concern was the kittens. I got up and found a few of them wandering around outside the room. I gathered them up, brought them back in, and shut the door.

A week or so later, it happened again. Then again. And then again last night.

This time I woke up, looked toward the doorway, and found three little kittens already exploring the hallway.

Here is why it caught my attention.

This is not a loose door that randomly drifts open all the time. It is actually a fairly snug door.

If it is not fully shut, it will usually swing back open rather quickly. If it is shut properly, it normally stays shut.

What makes this interesting is that I cannot recall this ever happening before the kittens were born and started roaming around.

Each time it happened, after getting the kittens back into the room, I ended up doing a very short ghost box session.

That is where things became even more interesting.

The responses that seemed to come through often sounded childlike. Sometimes they sounded like a young boy. Other times they sounded like a little girl. Last night, it particularly sounded like a young girl.

Before anyone jumps to conclusions, I am not jumping to conclusions either.

Could there be a perfectly normal explanation? Absolutely.

Changes in humidity, temperature, barometric pressure, door latch position, air pressure, floor movement, or something simple I have overlooked could all potentially play a role.

But I will also be honest and say that when you are repeatedly awakened by a door opening on its own in the early morning hours, your mind naturally starts asking questions.

Maybe that is the point.

As investigators, we should not be afraid of questions. We should not immediately assume every strange experience is paranormal. But we also should not automatically dismiss every unusual experience either.

Sometimes the best thing we can do is observe, document, and gather information.

My next step is probably going to be setting up a video camera facing the door and letting it run overnight.

If there is a natural explanation, great. If something else is happening, maybe the camera will capture useful context.

Either way, that is how investigation works.

For now, I thought it was an interesting experience worth sharing.
