When someone contacts a team, they are usually reporting experiences they do not understand. They may say they hear footsteps, see shadows, feel watched, or notice objects moving.

Those experiences may be very real to them, and they deserve to be treated with respect. But an experience, no matter how emotional or convincing, is not the same as evidence. It is information that still needs to be documented, examined, and tested.

Many investigators begin with a conclusion. They hear the word haunted and immediately start trying to confirm paranormal activity.

That approach creates bias from the beginning. It affects the questions asked, the areas focused on, the interpretation of equipment, and even the language used in the investigation. Once that happens, the investigation is no longer about discovering the truth. It becomes about supporting an assumption.

A professional investigator starts differently. They begin by asking: What is being reported? Who is experiencing it? When does it happen? Where does it happen? Are there patterns? Are there environmental or psychological factors present? Is there anything in the home or property that could naturally explain the claim?

These questions do not dismiss the witness. They honor the witness by taking their report seriously enough to examine it properly.
